The 40 Year Old Hoya
Balancing the desire to dance with my muse with work, grad school, relationships and real life - without going completely honking mad...
The Post Birthday Regroup
Even though my gift to myself is tonight - Diana Krall in York, PA - I’m on the other side of turning 41. 40 wasn’t bad at all - great relationship, engrossing road trips (Calgary/Vancouver, Chicago, Houston, NYC, Puerto Rico), great times with my crew, another year of grad school in the books, sold a story and had a piece in a local DC magazine, finished a couple of short films (with a couple more projects on the drives and waiting for me) - I can honestly say I have no complaints. Age, pfage. I’m still a baby boy, kids.
My first professional film credit (albeit as a provider as archival materials) is officially available on DVD: If you’re curious to peer through a window into my world, check out Erik Nelson’s documentary about the legendary writer (and not just my writing guru, but my friend) Harlan Ellison, titled Dreams With Sharp Teeth. Available now on DVD, and you can check out some short clips at the Sundance Channel web site: http://www.sundancechannel.com/digital-shorts/#/series/20958611001/20972306001
Harlan can be abrasive, angry, explicit, direct - but he is a hell of a talented writer who you may have never read. Seek and ye shall find riches.
Two new story ideas yesterday. While I’m working the novel, I think I need to hit the short story ideas when they rise and are hot. I now officially have enough ideas for a career. I simply need to write them. Hmm. Wonder if I won Mega Millions last night?
I leave for San Diego on Wednesday - need to start considering my packing tomorrow. Ten days up the coast, and then I need to consider whether I make a double-quick trip up to New York when I get back to see my Aunt Marguerite during her visit to Mom’s.
And I’ve booked a restaurant for my Lady Love and my anniversary day in NYC in July. Not telling her where, either. Heh heh heh.
